I just read Relentless Pursuit by Ken Gire- it was provided for me for free by
Bethany House Publishing in exchange for this review.
I thought the story
started off very well. I thought it got a little slow towards the middle and had
to push myself to keep reading. All in all it was a good story with a good
message- that God loves us all- even the "outsiders". This isn't a book just for
people who aren't a Christian yet, this is for us Christians who seem to still
feel like we're on "the outside" sometimes. I know in my own life I sometimes
feel that I won't ever live up to such a good standard, but this reminds me that
God will keep pursuing all areas of my life- even the bad parts!

Goats, Cookies, & Baseball
At the beginning of last week we finally brought our baby goats home. They are so cute... and ornery! My goodness these goats are veryyy curious little guys! lol. The people we bought them from said they had never had goats like these two before... just great! lol Oh well, the boys are loving them!

Wednesday while I was home I let B make cookies (pretty much all by himself). It was one of our "spontaneous" draw out of the jar activities :)
He did such a good job! Don't mind Corbin crawling on the cabinets in the background- he's such a monkey!).
We took "Christmas in July" cookies to our neighbors then!
We had the Petersburg tourney last week- our second tourney. It was nice being on our home turf and not having to drive... even though we had games Wednesday Thursday, Friday, Saturday (got rained out in the second inning) and Sunday. The boys did well. We play in Loogootee this week.

We are having a wonderful, although very busy, summer. I'm not ready for school to be starting in less than a month!!!! Eek!

All Star Tourney #1
All Stars has been keeping us very busy! Three hour practices a few times a week plus some practice games. B loves every minute of it- even when it's 100+ degrees so I won't complain, but man it has been hot!
B plays in an 8u league, Petersburg decided to have an 8 yr old All-Star team and a 7 yr old All-Star team. It's great for experience, but sometimes it's hard for them to remember they are playing against boys who are mostly all a whole year older than they are! That one year makes a big difference in size and skill level! Our boys lost this weekend, but really hung in there and played well.

Up to bat! B has been hitting great and his "smarts" when it comes to running/stealing have improved so much! I love it when it "clicks" with him- he gets so excited!

We have two boys that switch off catching and one is on vacation so B practiced last week in this position and they decided to have him do it this wk/end too- he enjoyed it! He normally plays third base so this was a change up, but he did well! He looks soooo tiny in all that gear!
This week will be another full week of baseball, practice tonight, consession stand duty tomorrow night (because we are the tourney hosts), game Wednesday night, practice Thurs. night game Friday night and then depending on how we do we will play over the weekend sometime too!
It is keeping us busy, but as long as he loves it we'll keep it up!

4th of July
I only worked one day last week- so that was a nice break! On Tuesday the boys and I went to swim with our buddies for a couple hours in the morning :)
It was soooo hot during the parade I thought I might die! But it was worth it to see those big smiles on B's face! Corbin thought it was worth it because he got a whole bucket full of suckers (his candy of choice!). Ryan was at home working on goat fence and a goat house :) Which are FINALLY done! The rest of the week consisted of baseball, baseball, and more baseball. Update on that next :)

Corbin really is a little fish. He is so comfortable in the water and just jumps in and goes to town all over the place. I think next summer he might be swimming on his own with some lessons! :)

On Wednesday B got to be in the 4th of July parade in Otwell as a "Deputy" :)
Todd came and picked him up in his police vehicle and took him to the jail to show him off to the dispatchers/officers before heading to the parade. He thought he was big stuff of course :)
Corbin wanted to go too and just did not understand why Bubby was going somewhere with out us!

My Stubborn Heart- Book Review
I just read "My Stubborn Heart" by Becky Wade. It wasn't a book that I absolutly couldn't put down, but it was a good story. I enjoyed the quirky characters that caused me to laugh out loud in parts. It was a Christian Fiction story and I usually do enjoy that type of book. I would recommend to my friends or family for a light read- I read in just an evening after the boys went to bed. All in all- a good book.

Saturday we went to Evansville to get some stuff B needs for all-stars, we ate at Logan's and ran to Menards to get some stuff for the goats (those things are costing me a ton! lol). When we got home it was still so hot, but we didn't want to end our fun yet so we went to visit Ryan's work :) That's the activity B pulled out of the jar and it fit perfectly into our day.

Summer To Do List- Fun!
Lately I've been feeling like I'm in a rut of sorts. Nothing major, but we've been so busy with showers/weddings and more baseball than I thought possible I feel like I've slipped in spending intentional time with my family b/c at the end of those long days all I want to do is curl up on the couch on in the tub with a book or go to bed early! None of those things are bad, but I also want to remember to be intentional with the relationships I have with my hubs and our boys.
Plus, it's summer and summer calls for spontananity-- which if you know me-- you know that I'm NOT good at being spontaneous! So yesterday while I was at work, but bored out of my mind b/c we're very slow lately I was browsing my pinterest boards b/c I"m guilty of pinning and having ideas, but not carrying through with them. I came across two things that really caught my eye. One was a list of suppertime questions and the other was a summer fun to do list.
I printed out each... added my own to some of the summer fun things-- tweaked it a bit. Cut little strips of paper for at least 30 min. and ended up having a ball with my boys last night. Seeing B's eyes light up when I told him what was going on was priceless.
Don't get me wrong- I know that one good quality I have is that I really do try to carve out time to establish routines and spend time with the boys. In the winter we play lots of board games in the evenings before bed, but as warm weather and sports took over this fell to the wayside. We read a couple of chapters in a book before bed, we pray, we talk, and we do fun things as a family, but being spontaneous is not usually something that is high on my list of things to do! And B loves surprises. I knew this would fill his love tank and give us some memorable summer fun! Corbin is happy as long as he's hanging out with us and being involved so he's pretty easy.
I really thought that Ryan would think I was crazy, but he hopped on board and thought it was a great idea- what a happy surprise!
I know that we only had our first night of doing this and it was an off night with no ball or other activity so that made it easy, but I really do want to carve out this special time each night. I printed off enough activities to do one per night until school starts.
I put the cut up questions in a glass jar and the cut up "summer fun to do" activities and put those in a separate jar. When we sat down at the supper table I set them in the middle and waited on B to ask what in the world they were. When I explained it to him his eyes lit up. He chose a question and we answered it... and then an activity. He drew the activity "organize a dodge ball game". Well since it was 107 outside I told him we'd have to play in the basement and he said, "YOU MEAN WE'RE GOING TO DO THIS TONIGHT?!?!?!" Even he knows good ol' mom usually only goes by a plan and isn't spontanous.
After we had cleaned up supper we headed downstairs and just used one of those big green rubber balls like they sell in the big containers at walmart. Our dodge ball was far from organized and we basically just tried to hit each other, but the boys thought it was wonderful and we all were cracking up laughing. It wasn't the activity that mattered, but the fact that we were being intentional in how we spent our time together.
I don't have any pictures b/c I was too busy trying to run from three boys who were coming after me with a big green ball (can we say pick on momma?!), but I did want to share because we enjoyed it so much and I thought it might be an idea for someone else. :)
I know that we are going to have nights (like tonight when we have a ballgame at 8:30) that it's hard to get it in, but we'll try and even if we don't make it happen every single night I think it will still be a success :)
